Title: Cactus Flower

Medium: watercolor on handmade, rough textured paper

Cactus Flower was painted during a family vacation to New Mexico. This particular plant was growing at Petroglyph National Monument in the city of Albuquerque. The common name for this plant is cane cholla or “walking stick cactus,” and they can grow in elevations over 6,000 feet. Their name is appropriate as, according the National Park Service, the stem or skeleton of this plant was often used for walking sticks or fences.
