Petra Donkey is part of the Domesticated collection. This watercolor was painted after a 2018 vacation to Jordan. We spent two days in the ancient Nabatean city of Petra where domesticated animals are still used in everyday life. I am so grateful and in awe of these incredibly adaptable animals after witnessing them in the Middle East. We owe so much to them, as they still create a livelihood for families and help us humans thrive in such harsh landscapes. Their ability to flourish in the desert is beyond my comprehension, and they deserve our utmost respect. I highly recommend traveling to Jordan to experience the rich and friendly culture, history, and unmatched landscapes. Here I am enjoying a moment with a very cordial donkey, and this was one of my favorite moments at Petra, a Modern Wonder of the World.
